Abilities Σ
Active Abilities Δ
All entities—characters (PC and NPC) and monsters—have four abilities that measure their physical and mental capabilities when performing actions:
- Strength (STR): Measures raw physical prowness.
- Dexterity (DEX): Measures agility, balance, reflexes, awareness and precision.
- Intelligence (INT): Measures reasoning, memory, and responsiveness.
- Charisma (CHA): Measures confidence, poise and charm.
Passive Σ
All entities have two abilities that affect the success of actions performed against them:
- Constitution (CON): Measures stamina and physical resistance, and contributes to health.
- Wisdom (WIS): Measures mental resilience and helps cheat death.
Note: Echoes for 5E retains the term "Wisdom" for familiarity and compatibility with SRD 5.2, even though its meaning does not fully encompass all its uses. The stand-alone Echoes RPG system uses "Willpower" instead, which accurately reflects its intended meaning.
Ability Modifiers
Each ability is represented by a modifier that you apply whenever you make a D20 Test with that ability (explained in D20 Tests). Modifier values range from -5 to +10 for all entities, with a -2 to +5 range being the most common for player characters. Details on how setup and increase Ability Modifiers are provided in Character Creation.
Note: Echoes for 5E does not rely on Ability Scores, it directly uses modifiers instead.
