Echoes Open License

1. Definitions

  • License: Refers to the Echoes Open License.
  • Licensor: Refers to Claudio Parisi.
  • Licensee: Refers to any individual or entity that uses, modifies, or distributes the licensed material.
  • Game System: Refers to the setting-agnostic ruleset and mechanics of Echoes.
  • Fantasy Setting: Refers to the complementary fantasy-inspired ruleset and mechanics of Echoes.

2. Grant of Rights

The Licensor grants you a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

  • Use the Echoes Game System and Fantasy Setting in their original or modified form.
  • Create derivative works based on the Echoes Game System and Fantasy Setting.
  • Distribute the original or modified material commercially, provided that all conditions of this license are met.

3. Attribution

All derivative works must include proper attribution to the Licensor. The attribution should be clearly visible and include:

  • A title starting with "Echoes of [Derivative Work Title]".
  • A statement acknowledging the original work: "This work is based on the Echoes Game System and Fantasy Setting, created by Claudio Parisi, and is released under the Echoes Open License."
  • A link to the license (https://echoesrpg.com/) if the derivative work is distributed online.

4. Share Alike

If you modify the material or create derivative works, you must license the resulting work under the same version of the Echoes Open License.

5. Title Restrictions

Any adaptive or derivative work based on the Echoes Game System and Fantasy Setting must start with the title "Echoes of".

6. Prohibited Uses

You may not:

  • Use the content to create material that promotes hate speech, violence, or discrimination in any form.
  • Create software applications or digital tools that implement, automate, or execute the Echoes Game System or Fantasy Setting mechanics (such as video games, mobile apps, character generators, dice rollers, or interactive digital play aids).
  • Train or finetune artificial intelligence (AI) models using the licensed material.
  • Generate derivative works using AI or other automated tools without proper attribution and adherence to the share-alike requirements outlined in this license.

This prohibition does not extend to:

  • Websites, blogs, or digital platforms that merely host, display, or distribute static content based on the Echoes Game System or Fantasy Setting.
  • Digital documents (such as PDFs, text files, or spreadsheets) that present rules, adventures, or supplementary materials without automating gameplay.

7. Scope of License

This license applies only to the Echoes Game System and Fantasy Setting. It does not extend to any other works or materials created by the Licensor.

8. Termination

This license will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with any of its terms and conditions. Upon termination, you must cease all use and distribution of the licensed material.

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms of Use shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, Canada.

10. International Use

If you access or use this work from outside Canada, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with local laws. By using this work, you agree that any legal matters shall be resolved under Canadian law and within Canadian courts.

11. Future Updates

The Licensor reserves the right to update or modify this license in the future. Any updates will be communicated through the official website (https://echoesrpg.com/). Using a newer version of the license constitutes acceptance of its terms and conditions.
